The Putnam County Food Council, which organized in 2015, seeks to identify needs related to food in the local and regional community and explore for healthy options through education, collaboration, research, advocacy, and action. Members are volunteers and professionals from agencies, organizations, and restaurants with an inherent interest in the local food system, which encompasses how and where food is grown and how it is processed, distributed, consumed and disposed of when there is waste. PCFC activities include promoting local awareness of food systems and their impact on communities, research on area "food deserts," and ongoing collaborations with Seedfork of the Highlands and the Downtown Green Market.
